Introduction

Honestly, I am not quite sure what to post. I made this account entirely as a result of the ensuing chaos happening on Tumblr, as a sort of home base to watch and wait for the fallout. I have never used a system like this one before, so there has certainly been a learning curve. Introductions... I guess I will start with the basics. Katherinesilver (she/her), my real name has nothing to do with the username. It is actually a strange hybrid between a nickname and my gamer tag. I spend almost all of my free time reading, writing, or playing video games. No, I don't find those things mutually exclusive, I enjoy them all for their own merits.

Currently, I live in the United States, but I grew up in Australia, and despite their differences, I have a great deal of affection for both countries. My main fandoms are Tolkien and Harry Potter, although I am more active in the Tolkien fandom. I have been haunting AO3 for almost a year now. I fairly recently worked up the nerve to start leaving comments on fics, because I also happen to be painfully shy and socially awkward, which I will happily blame if this intro sounds weird or stilted. I was involved in both of these fandoms growing up but took a hiatus for a little while, before being drawn back in because honestly, I enjoy it far too much to stay away.

I opened a Tumblr solely because of some of the authors from AO3 which means I was really new to the platform before the chaos broke out. Even so, I am already lamenting the idea of starting over from scratch, so I can only imagine how much worse it is for those of you who were active for an extended period over there. Anyway, that is all I can think of, so hello and see you around :)

Welcome to the void! ;-) Sorry to hear Tumblr disappointed you. In a strange way, I've been waiting for something like this to happen there for some time; the platform was always limited in ways that people who cut their teeth on threaded conversations found highly dissatisfying. X-D Now that it's happened it'll take time for fandom to settle again-- no adequate platform exists and one will have to be created or adapted to fill the need, which will take time. I don't actually believe it'll be Dreamwidth, in the end, but I didn't want to pay for PillowFort, so I came here X-D

The welcome (if I'm even in a position to extend one) is seconded. :) And I agree that it'll be interesting to see what happens-- and even if this doesn't end up being our next main home, at least a mini-community has made it over here!

Hello there, nice to see you. Horrible that this should happen just after you got settled on Tumblr. There isn't an obvious new fandom home though, so it won't be like the LiveJournal exodus when fandom had been involved with Tumblr for some time already - people will stay but they will be less forgiving next time something goes wrong. I hope we can create a good secondary community here finally (it's been tried before), because threaded comments and the reality of a safer space are special.
